A WORD FROM THE EDITOR

Dear visitor and international investor,

We warmly welcome you, if this is your first visit to Africabiz Online - The ultimate newsletter on trading and investing in 49 sub-Saharan African countries. If you are a regular and faithful reader, welcome back.

- THE NEED FOR A SURVIVAL STRATEGY

The evolving financial crisis is raging in spite of the effort deployed by the U.S.A. and European countries to stop the "rot" and rekindle the system. Banks had been bailed out of bankruptcy and wholly or partially nationalized in the States and in European Union countries, which governments, over night, did not hesitated to cast over board the concept of free trade and globalization that they had imposed upon developing nations for decades running. Following links [1, 2] dealt with that aspect of the financial crisis.

African banks and other developing countries banks in Asia and the Americas, seem, for time being "quarantined" from the debacle, as they do not use sophisticated financial tools to operate, and had not indulge in the subprime "follies".

However, sooner or later, more sooner than anticipated in most African nations, the coming credit crunch will deal a blow to the developing as, doubtless, bilateral government to government financial aids and assistance from Europe and the USA to Africa would decrease in volume. Therefore, it is absolutely necessary for African countries to have a survival strategy in order to continue the developing process.

- MISCELLANEOUS SERIES:RENEWABLE ENERGY: PART I: INTRODUCTION

Since 10 years running, Africabiz Online delivered hundred of developing opportunities to demonstrating that there are out there, all over African nations, untapped projects, that, when implemented can assist turning around the economy and create million of jobs.

With this delivery, Africabiz Online will start dealing randomly with these opportunities. That is issues pertaining to "Miscellaneous" will not be related to a specific category as we did for 10 years - and reported in the above listing-table. And from times to times, a previous delivery can be dealt with again, to highlight another angle of the problem.

The first delivery of this new publishing pattern concerns the problem of energy supply to the several opportunities previously reported - as electric energy supply in African countries is more or less erratic and only delivered to cities. Rural areas are simply left in the dark. The problem had been dealt with in several issues [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]

Issue above numbered/linked 2, pertaining to the biomass series [89, 90, 91, 92
] and will provide a wealth of information to entrepreneurs interested in supplying biomass renewable energy to powering agribusiness in rural areas.

In addition to the biomass option, there are renewable energy systems based on wind force and sun-rays, which require the acquisition of "expensive" equipment. Therefore, they might be off limit to African farmers and starter-entrepreneurs in agribusiness. However, once the business is running and producing cash flow, these wind and sun based system will become attractive to supplying abundant and less costly energy.

Biomass energy producing systems are right away the most affordable as they are based on the cultivation of adequate crops species to obtaining huge amount of straw, cellulose materials and oils-seeds.

Next delivery (available on April 15, 2009) will consider the dedication of acreage to the cultivation of a cereal plant that produces huge amount of straw, which can be used as fuel to generating on-the-spot energy to powering crops processing units in rural areas.
