THE ICELANDERS DID IT: THEY REFUSE TO BOW TO THE FINANCIAL SWINDLE AND MADE HISTORY
Previous deliveries [1, 2, 3] exposed the dire economic situation existing currently in The Republic of Iceland - heavily hit by the financial crisis, and compare the political and economic situation in the republic of Iceland with the one existing in African countries submitted to Structural Adjustment Programs.
The issue available on above link number one - above outlined, highlights the fact that, contrary to African countries decision makers, Icelanders are fighting to oppose the repayment of debts sustained by the bankrupted bank IceSave - staging a referendum to impede the enacting of the IceSave bill of repayment into law.
The referendum took place on March 6, 2010, and voters defied both their parliament and the "international community" to display their anger, and assert their sovereign rights with a strong 'No' result totaling 96% of the constituency.
Magnus Arni Skulason, co-founder of a group (listen to the above YouTube video) that opposed to the deal declares after the historic vote, "The Icelandic public understands that we are sovereign and we have to be treated like a sovereign nation -- not being bullied like the British and the Dutch have been doing."
This is an outstanding voting result that would have, doubtless, an international repercussion within the circle of developing nations worldwide - in the near future.
This even if, in spite of the vote, all three governments (Britain, Iceland and the Netherlands) involve to solving the dispute promised to work on a new agreement.

EQUIPMENT TO PRODUCE ENERGY FROM WASTE
In developing countries, and in African nations in particular, straw, hay and leaves - by-products of cereals's and tropical fruits's crops - are not used as raw materials to generate additional revenues.
In addition to these vegetable raw materials,
there are also big dump of rubber tires, and empty plastic bottles scattered around that are a disgrace in the landscape.
Previous deliveries [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11] discussed how biomass/ vegetable waste could be used as raw materials to generate electricity and solve the existing power crisis in most African countries.
The current delivery deals with the usage of abundant raw materials - from vegetable waste, to discarded used-rubber tires, to generate power.

BRIEFS ABOUT A NEW TECHNOLOGY/ EQUIPMENT TO TRANSFORM WASTE INTO ENERGY
A new operational technology/equipment - pictured below (The Green Energy Machine /GEM - Click on the picture to reach manufacturer website) - now permits the transformation of all kinds of waste (vegetable wastes, plastic packaging, and used-rubber tires) into synthetic gas to powering electricity generators. The raw materials /waste are piled into the machine, to be transformed into fuel pellets, which are further converted into synthetic gas to electricity's generators.
The minimum intake of trash/waste is two tons per day, which make it a good investment for waste management and power generating system for agribusiness concerns, small municipalities, hotels, apartment blocks, industrial plants. Etc.
The GEM takes up three car-parking spaces.
The selling price beginning of year 2010 stands around US$850,000. A valuable investment which ROI would be in the range of 3 to 4 years, according to the manufacturer.

WASTE MANAGEMENT AND POWER PRODUCTION USING GEM TECHNOLOGY
As stated by the manufacturer, GEM can power the lighting/ heating/ cooling system of a 200,000 square foot office-compound housing more than 500 people. Considering the energy consumption per capita in the United States being equal to approximately 13,600 kwh /year, the total production of GEM/ year to catering for 500 people stands around 6,800,000 kwh/year.
Now considering that Benin's energy consumption per capita is in the range of
70 kwh/ year, a GEM unit can cater for the energy's needs of 97,000 people in Benin. That is ten units can cater for the energy need of the city-port of Cotonou, which population numbers 800,000.
The selling price of one unit is currently set by the manufacturer at about US$850,000. Thus, ten imported units would be costing around
nine million US dollar (taxes excluded).
It is worthwhile making a comparative analysis with the cost of investing in other producing systems that use fossil raw materials (oil, natural gas and coal).
Indeed,
even if the investment costs into these may compare favorably with GEM investment level as outlined per previous paragraphs, one can state straight away that GEM technology has an indisputable advantage as it generates clean energy that drastically reduces the emission of carbon dioxide.
Further, and most important, it would assist salubrity and health managers get rid of the "astounding" amount of trash and waste disgracing African cities's landscape.
Next issue available on July 15, 2010 will consider the usage of straw as raw material to producing ethanol.
